You have three days to fully experience the wonderful town of Bozeman. Here are our suggestions for the ultimate Bozeman weekend!
You leave work Friday afternoon, pack your car and head to Bozeman, Montana. The last thing you want to do is wait 45 minutes for dinner at one of the fancy downtown restaurants. So, if you are coming in on I-90 from the NW consider stopping in Manhattan (25 minutes out of town) and eating a steak dinner at Oasis. You will experience the typical Montana, small-town watering hole with AMAZING steak! (Land of Magic in Logan is also a good option!) The key to staying in Bozeman is Airbnbs. Hotels are expensive and an Airbnb will offer you more space! Drop your stuff off at your place for the night and then head out on the town! You can oftentimes find free music at a downtown bar or coffee shop (Wild Joes and 406 Brewing have great drinks and awesome music weekly) which will keep you relaxed for your full day tomorrow!
Get ready for a fun-packed day! Start your day off bright and early (like 4:30 am) watching the sunrise at Mt. Blackmore (plan on leaving early- the elevation gain is 3,434 feet from the trailhead and the hike is approximately 5 miles – plan on 2 to 4 hours). After the hike, head over to one of the many breakfast joints! If you’re interested in the best French Toast, check out Storm Castle, if you want a funky atmosphere with stellar Huckleberry Mimosas check out Cateye Cafe, and if you want an authentic “local/ trendy” Bozeman breakfast go to Nova! After your morning hike and a big breakfast, you’ll probably want to relax, so head over to the Madison River to go tubing and if you are in to fly fishing this is a great place to get some trout (if you want a great, local fly fishing guide. check out Rowan Fly Fishing)! For dinner, go to one of the local’s favorites. Montana Ale Works, Open Range (a little pricey), and Copper are all favorites! End your night with Open Mic Night at Haufbrau (Bozeman’s only bar with live music every night of the week!)
Nothing says Bozeman like getting out there in the great outdoors, so start your morning with a climb at Practice Rock. It isn’t too far out of town and has awesome routes (5.6 to 5.12). After the climb, check out all Hyalite Canyon has to offer. From paddle boarding in the reservoir to seeing Palisade Falls, you can definitely make a whole day of all the activities! Have lunch outside next to Bozeman Creek at Café Fresco (I highly suggest the pesto cavatappi and the tiramisu) and enjoy all the downtown shops (I’m looking at you Heyday and Schnees). To end your epic short-term vacation, finish the night with live music and a soak at Bozeman Hot Springs or if your drive home is West, stop at Norris Hot Springs for live music at 7 pm!
